CHENNAI: Director Bharathiraja called on all Tamils to take part in a mass demonstration to be organised  at the Marina here on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue on Sunday.“It is not just to express solidarity with the people living in Theni, Cumbum and Bodi, but for all Tamils in the State,” he said on Friday. He wanted to know why the Tamil film industry is silent on the issue. “It may be because our film chamber is named after south India whereas the neighbouring states have chambers named after their state,” he said.Bharathiraja said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has written three letters to the Centre on the dam, but there was no response. “There is no unity in the state. Otherwise, the Centre will not take such a stand,” he said.Asked whether a movie similar to ‘Dam999’ would be made to showcase the adverse effects of decommissioning the reservoir, he said that it would take at least one year to complete such a project and by that time the dam could be demolished. Bharatiraja said the Tamil Nadu Directors’ Association has decided to stage a fast in Theni on December 30.
