THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The unused land of various government departments will be utilised for various developmental projects which will be showcased at the Emerging Kerala meet scheduled for next year.Unlike the earlier Global Investors Meet (GIM), this time the government will put forward only concrete proposals which will materialise. All government departments have been asked to prepare feasible projects and identify the promoters and have an initial discussion with them. Tourism Department will be providing their unused land for tourism purposes to private investors. Tourism Director Rani George said that already six plots have been identified for the purpose. ‘’Our plan is to attract investors with proposals which can be implemented with immediate effect. Efforts are on to identify more land which could be utilised for promoting tourism in Kerala. The land will be given on lease to investors so that new tourism destinations will come up,’’ she said. Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) managing director Alkesh Kumar Sharma said that all the departments were identifying land under their control. They will prepare projects suitable for various types of industries which can come up. ‘’What project can be implemented in a particular piece of land will be identified and discussed in a committee. The committee will go through various aspects of the project before finalising the particular land for imlementing the project,’’ he said.The Emerging Kerala meet is planned by the State Government to attract more investments to the state. It was also decided to constitute an Investment Kerala Mission with the support of the Confederation of Indian Industry to implement the projects in a time-bound manner. Before the meet scheduled in Kochi, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will holddiscussions with industrialists from the country and abroad. An open consulate office will be set up in Kerala by the UAE as part of the meet.
