KOZHIKODE: Street vendors had a field day in Kozhikode as travellers plagued by hunger and thirst had to stop at their stalls and carts in the absence of better options on Monday. The near-total hartal had ensured that no hotels or restaurants remained open during the day and it was left to these small-time vendors to cater to the needs of the travellers. People thronged tea carts and stalls selling tender coconuts lapping up the delicacies on offer. “I have been at my stall for around four hours now and havev’t got even a few minutes without customers,” said Ravi, a coconut vendor, had his cart strategically placed near the railway station. He said that travellers who get down tired at the railway station wander into his stall for a quick drink and snack as they have no other option in the vicinity. He added that this was going to be his most profitable day in quite some time.
