BHUBANESWAR: Veterinarians in the State postponed their agitation on Monday following an assurance from the State Government on some of their demands.Veterinary services were hit for nearly a week with as many as 1,000 veterinarians across the State going on mass leave after the Government did not pay heed to their demands. They were demanding entry level appointment as Junior Class 1 grade, regularisation of vets who were appointed on contractual basis, cadre restructuring as per seniority and ad hoc appointment of fresh veterinary graduates instead of contractual appointment. Following a meeting on Friday among the Finance Minister, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister, Secretary, Dean of the Odisha Veterinary College P K Dehury, Bhubaneswar MLA (Middle) Bijay Mohanty and president of Odisha Veterinarians Association Tanmany Mohanty, it was decided that the State Government would place some of the demands before the next Cabinet meeting. These demands include cadre restructuring as per seniority and ad hoc appointment of fresh veterinary graduates instead of contractual appointment. Students of Odisha Veterinary College, who had boycotted classes in support of the demands, too called off their agitation.
