KOZHIKODE: The CPM dissenters, especially in Kozhikode and Kannur districts, are an excited lot. For, they consider the confirmation of V S Achuthanandan about the letter sent to the party’s central leaders and the discussion held with the leaders of the RMP as a clear sign of the veteran’s open support to their movement.Onchiyam, once a bastion of the CPM and now a stronghold of the Revolutionary Marxist Party floated by slain leader T P Chandrasekharan, is also experiencing a feeling of exuberance as the Marxist rebels in this area are said to be loyalists of the veteran leader. “Many people feel that the move of VS is right as he has pointed out that the CPM is indulging in right-wing and murderous politics and there is increasing resentment among the cadre against its leadership. Those who have a strong feeling against the brutal killing of Chandrasekharan would support him,” said K K Jayan, youth wing leader of the RMP. Significantly, RMP Onchiyam Area Committee secretary N Venu and Left Coordination Committee vice-president P Kumarankutty held talks with VS on Monday at the Cantonment House, Thiruvananthapuram. Sources said that VS invited RMP leaders for the meeting. Earlier, RMP leaders had made it clear that they would support VS if he quits the party as he has raised a political issue before the party leadership. However, Left Coordination Committee president K S Hariharan said that the meeting with VS was not in the context of the letter. ‘’As VS is the Opposition Leader, we discussed the matter of the ongoing probe into Chandrasekharan murder and the situation prevailing in Onchiyam area,’’ he added.
