Waiting to hear you are hired

MANGALORE: The wheels of justice grind slowly but the process of filling vacant posts of peons is even slower in district courts, as frustrated aspirants have discovered.Nursing dreams, candidates who rushed to apply for 'D' group posts, including peon posts, in Dakshina Kannada District and Sessions Court in 2008, are still waiting to hear the magical words 'you are hired'.A notification (No. ADMN1/6023/2008) from the District Judge released on June 18, 2008, solicited applications from candidates for the post of 'process servers' (nine posts) and peons (40 posts). Applications flooded the office weeks ahead of the deadline on July 31, 2008.Two years later when no response seemed forthcoming, the candidates lost all hopes of hearing from the employers. To their surprise, aspirants received intimations to attend the interview in 2010 and hopes soared again. The lull that followed the interview ruptured their dreams again.The delay in shortlisting candidates prompted them into making speculations. "The interview seems to be just an eyewash and candidates may have been appointed," suspects a candidate, who was confident of landing a job in the District Court.Sources defending the District Court pointed out that a petition in the High Court delayed the interview process. "Interview cards were sent only after the writ petition was vacated a year ago," sources said, and blamed Deputy Director of Public Instructions for the delay in the final phase of screening.For reasons ranging from busy working schedules to vacations, the marks cards waiting for the stamp of authenticity never figured on the priority list of the DDPIs in Bangalore rural, Bijapur, Hassan, Tumkur, Gulbarga and Mangalore.However, Dakshina Kannada DDPI, Moses Jayashekhar, claims the marks card were verified and sent back.
