Bindaas channel is looking for India's first space tourist.

New Delhi: Lazy fingers and couch potatoes can now reach for the stars, all while doing their favourite activity – watching television.

A new Indian television channel is giving viewers a chance to travel to space just by winning a contest.

Recently-launched Bindaas channel – owned by the UTV group – has launched a nationwide search for India's first space tourist.

"We are launching our channel in August and this is the best way of marketing it. By promising our viewers a chance to tour space, we are embodying the spirit of our channel which potrays fun and fearlessness," CEO of Bindaas, Zarina Mehta was quoted as saying by news agencies.

The contest is opened to all Indians 18 years or above of age and in “reasonably good health.”

UTV has tied up with Rocket Plane XP - one the world's first firms offering commercial flights into space – for the contest.

“As we launch the channel, we will give out more details about the contest. Very few persons across world have experienced space travel and it is a very expensive proposition," Mehta was quoted as saying.

Mehta says the entertainment segment channel will target an audience aged between 17 and 21 years.
