Water worries: Pleas falling on deaf ears?

The Nagarikara Hitarakshana Vedike in T Dasarahalli and Nagarikara Kshemabhirudhi Sanghagala Okkoota in Ramamurthynagar held a meeting on Sunday to discuss the conditions imposed by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to supply Cauvery water.

They opposed the collection of deposit, additional charges and fines for new connections in these areas.

“The had officials promised to supply Cauvery water last month, but they have failed to do so. Now, they have assured to supply the water by the end of this month. The BWSSB has asked every house owner to get new connections. However, we will have to pay anywhere between Rs 6,000 - 8,000 for the new connection,” said Kenchegowda, general secretary, Nagarikara Hitarakshana Vedike.

Members of the association said the BWSSB had proposed to supply drinking water to all the areas, but along with water they have proposed a fine for late payment of deposit even before  providing water.

“They have also introduced prorata charges. Contractors charge more than Rs 4,000 to fix connections and they charge Rs 100 for application. This is unreasonable. The cost is too much for us to bear,” said Ramachandrappa one of the member of the organisation. The members said although they had written several times to the BWSSB, their pleas had fallen on deaf ears.
