KOCHI Police personnel will have to wear their uniforms when appearing in court, the Kerala High Court directed on Friday. Cops should wear uniforms while appearing before the court as part of their official duty unless otherwise directed. A division bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice C T Ravikumar passed the order while considering a habeas corpus petition. The court also directed the Additional Director General of Prosecution Advocate K A Abdul Rasheed to inform the top police officials to comply with the court order.According to the petitioner, Rajesh of Kollam, his wife Vidhya was forcefully taken away by her father and relatives on the day of his wedding. Rajesh moved the High Court alleging illegal detention of his wife. A police officer from Anchal police station appeared before the court in plain clothes and informed that it was with her consent that the police handed over Vidhya to her father. It was this gesture that prompted the court to give a direction regarding uniforms.
