New Delhi: The controversy over Sonia Gandhi holding a position of profit has given the Left parties another stick to beat the UPA with.

CPI-M politburo member Sitaram Yechury has said the government should have taken Parliament into confidence before deciding to promulgate the ordinance that would define offices of no-profit.

"We haven’t received any information from the government yet. We are open to talks if they decide to approach us," Yechury said.

Yechury also spoke about Jaya Bachchan’s controversial disqualification. “Jaya Bachchan’s disqualification exposes the loopholes in law and it was unfortunate,” he said.

The ordinance, which was to be promulgated on Friday, is aimed at identifying 62 posts as offices of non-profit.

The posts include that of Chairperson of the National Advisory Council, which is currently being held by Sonia Gandhi.

The decision on the ordinance was reportedly taken at a meeting held by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh late Wednesday night with some of his cabinet colleagues.

It was also decided that the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) would meet on Thursday to discuss prorogation of Parliament.
