Where is your Basanti ?
Where is your Basanti ?
Follow us:WhatsappFacebookTwitterTelegram.cls-1{fill:#4d4d4d;}.cls-2{fill:#fff;}Google NewsFinally I have also decided to join the bandwagon. A little late, I know. But today when we still argue if Sholay is overrated or not after 30 years of its release, then I guess its not too late to talk about the film that everyone seems to raving about - what else but Rang De Basanti.

Few days back on our channel the topic of discussion was also RDB - if the film truly represents the youth of the country ? I also posed the same question to many of my friends. Most of them who are film buffs have seen the film atleast twice and some are plannning to watch it once more. Almost everyone agreed about the first half but opinions were varied about the second half.

Why ? Because we all have enjoyed some moments of doing nothing and simply enjoying life in some stage of our life. So we all loved the first half. And second half ? I wonder how many of us will react in the same manner like they did in the second half. Or are those actions just filmy to have goose bumps with popcorn and cola by your side. But as one of my idealist friend said -You cant say if you will react in the same manner or not. But its the situation that makes you a hero. Its just a moment of few seconds....when you take that decision to change your life's normal course. (Though that friend of mine is not a film buff but even he has seen the film twice making Ronnie Screwvala and Rakesh Mehra more rich.)

I wonder why cant we all change a bit of something in our life at some point, something that is wrong or do something right that needs to be done. Reason - Simply because we are taught to be part of bread-butter-jam rat race and nothing beyond that. Everyone around us wants us to lead a normal life. Thats why, when in school we are asked to write essay on aim of your life, the options are limited to doctor, engineer,IAS or armed forces.

One of my college friend Anupam posted a comment on my blog saying I hav used a pic of Che Guevara for my blog but my posts got nothing to do with it. Thats the reason for everything, i guess. We all are hypocrite to some extent. We just pretend. We all like idealists, simple guys who become hero or still waiting to be recognised but when it comes to us we dont dare. We all like Motorcycle Diaries but we dont want to ride the bike. And you need to do that to find out that Basanti in your life.

Like Medha Patekar who passed out of TISS and decided to work for grass root causes while her friends joined the big NGO's,world bank and many UN bodies. Like those IITians who have floated a political party recently. But how many of us really want to find that basanti colour in our life? We prefer other colours - colour of 2-3BHK,colour of EMI's and colour of a decent job. We love Basanti colour in others life. Isn't it ? And excuses are as many as you want. When Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades was released, one of my friend based in US felt very emotionally charged after watching the film. But after few days, he realised it was just a film and in real life its not possible as he has too many commitments(excuses??) and no Gayatri Joshi is waiting for him in India. So, basanti is not that easy to find out.

After so much of lecturebaazi, you must be wondering where is my basanti ? Honestly I am also thinking about it. May be not now. Few years more for that bread-butter-jam race. Few commitments(read excuses)before I can follow my basanti.

As I struggle to find out my basanti in few years (for sure) do let me know if you have found yours ?
