This goat market is held every Thursday from 5 am to 11 am. The sale of flag goats is becoming more common here. People come to this goat market to buy goats for goat and goat rearing. Also, more goats are bought here for rearing. Bamboo fences for goat rearing are also sold in the market.

Speaking about this goat market, vendor Bala Sudhakar said, “The goat market is held every Thursday at Pudhiambuttur. The annual market is held from 5:00 am to 11:30 am. Mainly flag goats are sold here.

Many people from other districts like Trichy, Thanjavur, Ariyalur and Pudukottai come here to buy flag goats. Kids of flag goats are also sold here. The quality of each goat and kid is determined by its price,” he said.

A few months ago, cattle traders and farmers from Salem, Namakkal, Erode and Dharmapuri districts who flocked to the Nangavalli market earned rich returns. Around 2,000 goats and sheep were brought to the market as early as 6 am.

A goat was sold between Rs 12,000 and Rs 18,000, while sheep were traded between Rs 10,000 and Rs 14,000 on the day.

V Selvaraj, a trader from Nangavalli, told TNIE, “Last year, the price of a goat was between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000, while sheep fetched between Rs 9,000 and Rs 12,000. This year, there is a surge in demand, which has pushed up the prices by Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000.”

Traders and farmers were delighted with the good results: animals worth Rs 2 crore were sold within two hours of the market opening.
