CHENNAI: A woman allegedly committed suicide after her son was detained by the police for his reported involvement in an attempt to murder case, at R K Nagar on Monday. It was also alleged that the woman was verbally abused by two constables, who visited her house.According to the police, Saraswathi alias Sarasu (42) of Durgadevi Nagar, Korukkupet, was found hanging in her house. Saraswathi’s son was taken away by the cops on Sunday night.The cops said the woman’s son, Unnikrishnan (19) was reportedly involved in an attempt to murder a person, Senthil Kumar, at Vinoba Nagar last year. The 19-year-old was arrested and later released on bail, with a condition that he should report to the local police station regularly. Unnikrishnan, who used to sign in at the police station, later stopped doing so. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued against him. On Sunday, two constables from the local police station came to his residence to check on him.They reportedly asked Saraswathi if her son was hiding inside the house. When she said he wasn’t, the cops allegedly abused her verbally. Unnikrishnan was then arrested when he arrived home later at night.Youth ends lifeSeenu (25) of Sevoor near Arni committed suicide by hanging himself, here on Saturday. Seenu’s father, Ranganathan, in a complaint to the police had said that his son committed suicide after he suffered huge financial losses owing to gambling.The police have registered a case and are investigating.
