HYDERABAD: Mild tensions prevailed at a private hospital at the Kukatpally Housing Board Colony on Monday, after a woman died allegedly due to complications arising out of a weight-loss surgery performed on her a few months back. According to the deceased’s family members, Rama Devi (31), a native of Ramagundam in Karimnagar had approached a private super specialty clinic at road no 1 in KPHB for weight reduction. She reportedly used to weigh more than 100 kg. Doctors at the hospital performed a liposuction surgery to remove fat from abdomen, hips and thighs of the woman. After the surgery, Rama Devi started to complain of stomach pain and nearly 20 days back, she again complained of stomach pain and got admitted to the hospital. On Sunday night, she once again complained of severe pain and died while undergoing treatment, her family members said.Rama Devi’s family members and leaders of political parties from Ramagundam staged a protest near the hospital on Monday. KPHB inspector N Narasimha Reddy said no case has been registered as family members of the woman decided to settle the issue through talks with the hospital management.
