BANGALORE: A 32-year-old woman Syed Rehath Unnisa, became a victim of acid attack.Her husband pour acid over her following a family dispute in Muneshwaranagar of Subramanyapura police station limits, on Friday morning.The victim has been admitted to a private hospital with 30 per cent burn injuries on her right cheek, neck and back while her husband Adbul Vakil is absconding after the incident.The couple hailed from Tiptur taluk in Tumkur district and were married 13 years ago and have two daughters, Nabeena and Afrina.Vakil, the accused was working as a manager with a private finance company while Unnisa was working at a boutique shop.According to the police, the couple had misunderstandings and Unnisa wanted a divorce from Vakil. They had also approached a moulvi to get divorce and it is said he had asked the couple to reconsider their decision and had given a month’s time.Meanwhile, Vakil, who was not going to house their regularly, had gone home on Thursday night. On Friday morning after their children went to school, Vakil allegedly pour acid on Unnisa and fled away. Unnisa was shifted to hospital by the neighbours, police said.Unnisa’s elder sister Ishrat Banu alleged that Vakil harassed her sister earlier also.“Unnisa was studying BE in Tumkur and Vakil married her forcibly by kidnapping her. We did not file a case against Vakil then as he had married Unnisa. But, he never treated Unnisa like a wife. He always insulted her and assaulted her,” she alleged.“Vakil had asked her to go away. So, Unnisa started living with her children in a separate house, where Vakil visited her occasionally. After she asked for a divorce, he threatened to not live her by herself even though they would be officially divorced.However, Unnisa did not budge to his threatening and it has resulted in this acid attack ” she alleged.The Subramanyapura police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are on the look out for Vakil.
