A woman was allegedly conned of 16 sovereigns of gold by a duo at Ambattur on Saturday.
Claiming to be looking for a suitable alliance for their brother, two women who identified themselves as sisters, visited the house of Bagyam (50) in Iyyapakkam on Saturday, police said.
One of them introduced herself as Mary from Vellore and told Bagyam that she wished to see her daughter, Kalaiselvi (29). They asked Kalaiselvi to dress up, so that they could take a photograph to show their brother.
The duo then took Kalaiselvi and her mother to a beauty parlour. They then sent Bagyam away, asking her to keep ready Kalaiselvi’s clothes for the photograph. Later, they asked Kalaiselvi to remove her gold jewellery to have a facial done. A few minutes later, the women vanished with Kalaiselvi’s jewels. Police said they were interrogating marriage broker, Palanivel, in connection with the incident.
