New Delhi: Forty years ago Prakash Mehra made Amitabh Bachchan an overnight star with his film 'Zanjeer' and gave the then less known actor Amitabh much recognition in Bollywood and amongst the fans. Now, director Apoorva Lakhia seems to be pulling the same strings for Bollywood newcomer Ram Charan who is all set to step into the shoes of Bachchan to play ACP Vijay in the latest 'Zanjeer'.
With the trend of remakes taking over Bollywood now, 'Zanjeer' is Amitabh Bachchan's third film to get a makeover on the silver screen yet again after 'Don' and 'Agneepath'. While Telugu star Ram Charan will reprise the role of inspector Vijay, actress Priyanka Chopra will play the new age Mala in the film.
Apart from these two, Sanjay Dutt, Mahie Gill and Prakash Raj also add to the star cast of 'Zanjeer'. Though, Apoorva Lakhia has claimed that the film is not the remake but is rather an original, it would be interesting to see the new age 'Zanjeer'.
1973 'Zanjeer' gave Amitabh the 'Angry Young Man' tag. Will the new film be able to prove the same for Ram Charan, who is making his debut in Bollywood? Is new 'Zanjeer' going to be a tribute to the original cult?
