Queen Of Tears Star Park Sung-hoon On Family Facing Financial Crisis: 'I Cried A Lot'

Park Sung-hoon who plays Yoon Eun-sung, the villain in the drama Queen of Tears recalled the time his family was facing financial crisis. During an interview on the tvN program Hangout With Yoo, Park addressed rumours about his affluent upbringing, revealing the stark reality of his family’s financial situation. Contrary to public perception, Park’s family faced significant economic hardships, especially after his father lost his job during the IMF crisis. One particularly striking moment that made him understand his family’s dire circumstances occurred during Park’s military service.

During the conversation, Park revealed that after enduring eight months without a day off, he finally had the opportunity to call his mother. However, instead of expecting joy, his mother’s response was rather troubled.

The actor revealed that his mother hesitantly asked him not to visit home, explaining that their financial situation was so dire that they could only afford to eat kimchi and drink water. His mother couldn’t bear the thought of not being able to provide small pocket money if Park were to visit home.

This conversation deeply affected Park, bringing him to tears as he realised the extent of his parents’ sacrifice and struggle. “After the phone call, I think I cried a lot,” he added.

Despite the hardships, fans expressed both heartbreak for his family’s situation and admiration for Park’s success, wishing him even greater achievements in the future.

The drama concluded its run on April 28 on tvN, achieving an impressive 24.8% viewership rating. As of now, Queen of Tears has become the highest-rated drama in tvN history, surpassing Crash Landing on You starring Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin.
