In winters, we are generally advised to eat green leafy vegetables to keep our body healthy. According to experts, consuming too much of green veggie can also be harmful for our health. Green leafy spinach is considered a powerhouse when it comes to nutrients. Rich in nutrients like magnesium, iron, potassium, vitamin C and vitamin K, Spinach can be very good for our body and health. Eating too much of it can affect our body negatively. According to some websites, too much spinach could cause diarrhoea. One may also suffer from other gastric conditions like bloating and cramping. It is because the vegetable contains a lot of fibre; furthermore, it takes time to digest.
Spinach is high in oxalic acid, an element which is found naturally in the plants. So, consuming a lot of spinach could result in higher amounts of oxalic acid in the body, affecting the body’s ability to absorb the minerals present. According to more information, the oxalic acid ends up binding with minerals like magnesium, zinc and calcium, causing mineral deficiency in the body.
Spinach contains a chemical called histamine, which is also present in some cells of the body. As per reports, it may cause allergies in the body as well.
People who suffer from the condition of kidney stones should strictly avoid consuming spinach. It is because eating the vegetable may increase the content of oxalic acid in the body, and the body is unable to flush it out of the system. So, because of that calcium oxalate stones start to accumulate in the kidney, causing the condition of kidney stones.
Another negative side effect of spinach is caused due to an element called purine. The oxalic acid and purine present in spinach may trigger gout in the body. People who suffer from the condition of joint pain or swelling should avoid eating spinach.
