Overthinking happens when your worries and thoughts revolve in an endless loop.
Do your thoughts often consume you? Do you always find yourself surrounded by negative thoughts? Well, if you are struggling with this pattern regularly, you might be an Overthinker. Overthinking happens when your worries and thoughts revolve in an endless loop. Such thoughts can emerge from any aspect of your life, be it relationships, health, or work.
This unhealthy process can lead to early signs of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. If you catch yourself overthinking, here are some tips to help you manage it:
- Distract Yourself:This is one of the best ways to stop your mind from consuming negative things. Keep yourself distracted by doing your favourite things. It can be anything, from going shopping with friends to heading out for a workout, or reading session. Just keep yourself occupied so that you don’t attract negativity.
- Share Your Thoughts with Someone:If you’re someone who understands you, then share your worries and fears with them. This will not only provide emotional support but will also release the burden.
- Meditate:Meditation is a powerful way to counter those troubling thoughts and relax your mind. By being present in the moment and focusing on breathing, overthinkers can get a break from excessive thoughts. Just sit down for a few minutes daily to clear your mind and relax your body. You can also practice yoga to reduce stress and anxiety by connecting your body, mind, and environment.
- Stay Away from Negative Company:Keep yourself away from people who are in a complaint box. Such people get you down with their negativity and whinging.
- Small Diary:Keep a small diary with yourself and note down all the negative thoughts that come across your mind. As you start to identify your Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs), try to evaluate why the situation is causing you to think negatively.
- Travelling:Anxiety is difficult to deal with but don’t let it ruin your travel plans. Travel as much as you can as it brings positivity and keeps your mind occupied. Travelling also helps you to stay in the present, providing a calm environment that can reduce overthinking.
