The ongoing Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 has brought to runway a collection, tailor-made for fashionistas. Label Ritu Kumar showcased its lineup titled ‘Maharaja Pop Collection on day three of the five-day fashion gala. Inspired by the rich fabrics and ornamentations of erstwhile royalty, the collection is a modern retelling of a vibrant fashion tradition.
While talking to News18.com, the designer also pointed out that fashion has become bolder than ever. “Due to increased reach and more audience awareness, designers are experimenting more than ever before, and fashion has become bolder than ever”.
She further expressed the need for accessible fashion. “Fashion is just growing and growing, and this has led to more accessible fashion."
“This need is being met by the increasing number of brands and designers making garments for every type of person, in every income group," added the designer.
Highlighting the existence of a symbiotic relationship between films and fashion in the industry, the designer said, “With stars becoming fashion icons, it helps promote the reach of a designer’s brand when a celebrity wears them. Similarly, fashion helps a celebrity define their persona and become known for their unique style. I think that fashion and film go hand in hand."
When asked about the trend that has only evolved over the years, the couturier said, “I think the one trend or movement that has stayed over years is simplicity and classic elements."
“People always gravitate towards timeless pieces, especially those that can be passed down from one generation to the next."
She also appreciated the young designers who’ve caught her eye. “I like some for how they have experimented with silhouettes, while others catch my eye for their take on modernizing traditional wear, so yes there are many new designers I admire."
