Sipping piping hot tea and dunking a biscuit or two into your drink is loved by people of all ages. But did you know that this chai-biscuit combination has some downsides for your health in the long run? Read on to know why.

Whether it’s raining, you are having a headache, or there’s a house party, there is a tea for every mood and tea lover. From black tea to milk tea, a cup of piping hot tea is more than just delicious to face the long day ahead. But with tea comes its best companion, biscuits, which most of us like to have with a warm beverage. Sipping piping hot tea and dunking a biscuit or two into your drink is a delicious way to unwind and is loved by people of all ages. But did you know that this chai-biscuit combination has some downsides for your health in the long run?

Sorry to burst the bubble, but here are some reasons explaining why dunking biscuits in tea can be hazardous:

High-Calorie Intake: Many biscuits can be high in calories, sugar, and unhealthy fats. So, if you drink tea with biscuits regularly, you can contribute to weight gain.

Blood sugar spike: Tea itself might not have a lot of sugar, but biscuits often do. Dipping biscuits can lead to a blood sugar spike, especially if done frequently. There’s an additional risk for people with diabetes and thyroid problems because of the high sodium content in biscuits.

Can affect the heart: A typical 25g packet of biscuits is said to contain 0.4g of salt which when eaten up in excess quantity can increase the threat of high blood pressure, stroke and heart failure. Note that high sodium consumption can also dehydrate the body resulting in bloating, puffiness and weight gain.

Dental Issues: Biscuits contain sugar and frequent dunking of sugary biscuits in tea can increase the risk of tooth decay.

Weakens the immune system: Sugary drinks in general weaken the immune system. Similarly, biscuits are high in sugar and if consumed daily with tea it will weaken the immune system.

Constipation: Usually, biscuits are made from refined flour and the fibre in it is not purified. So, eating biscuits with tea every day can lead to constipation. Apart from this, the presence of two molecules, BHA and BHT, can seriously affect physical health.

Loss of appetite: When we eat biscuits with tea, it is a delight similar to cocaine and morphine that a human can never settle for and ends up overeating. If this habit continues for a longer term, you will miss out on essential nutrients and foods. Later, it will cause problems like indigestion, flatulence, chest irritation, stomach ache and loss of appetite.
