Late Sushant Singh Rajput’s Chhichhore was announced as the Best Hindi Film at the 67th National Film Awards at the National Media Centre, in Delhi on Monday, March 22. The film helmed by Nitesh Tiwari follows the story of a middle-aged divorcee (Rajput) who takes a trip down memory lane with his college friends after encountering a tragic incident.
Sajid Nadiadwala, producer of Chhichhore said in a statement, “On behalf of NGE (Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainments), I dedicate this extremely prestigious award to Sushant Singh Rajput. We can’t get over his loss ever but I sincerely pray that this award gives a little bit of happiness to his family and fans which includes me. And I am tremendously grateful to Nitesh Tiwari for giving us all this very special movie.”
Last year, Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by suicide had taken the film industry by storm and stirred several controversies like nepotism and drug abuse in the industry.
Apart from Rajput, the film stars Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, Tahir Raj Bhasin, and Tushar Pandey among others in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, Manoj Bajpayee and Dhanush jointly bagged the award for Best Actor for their roles in Bhonsle and Asuran respectively. Gumnaami, a film loosely based on Netaji won the Best Bengali Film.
This year a total of 461 feature films had been selected for the awards. The 67th National Film Awards ceremony was initially scheduled to be held on May 3, 2020, but was delayed indefinitely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
