Aamir Khan starrer Rang De Basanti is one of the cult movies. The film is not only known for its songs but also storyline. Fans still love to watch it. But do you know the climax of Rang De Basanti was changed by the story written by Aamir Khan? Yes, you are reading right.

In a conversation with Cinemaanreal, Aamir Khan is seen talking about the climax of the film. He says, “Originally what the climax was that we kill the defence minister and we try to escape from the city and each one of us gets shot at different places. So I asked Mehra, ‘I love your script (but) the end doesn’t make sense to me because why are they running? Do they feel they have done something wrong?’ So he was like, ‘ya, why are they running?

On how he suggested an alternative climax for the film, Aamir says, “Throughout the film your parallel is Bhagat Singh… Bhagat Singh didn’t run away. So he got arrested by choice and then expressed what he had to. Even these guys therefore shouldn’t run away. I had this story I had written many years ago. In my version there were two guys… it reached a situation where they need to communicate with society. So they enter a television studio and take over. They go live so they can start talking to the people.”

The actor shared, “I took that and told Mehra that I had this story and I will now not make it because the climax is gone… But he liked it and we fitted that climax scene into Rang De Basanti.”

Released in 2006, Rang De Basanti was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The film stars Aamir Khan, Siddharth, R. Madhavan, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman and British actress Alice Patten.

The story traced the story of five freedom fighters of the Indian Independence movement through the lens of a British film student who goes on to instill the fervent emotions of patriotism in five young men during the course of shooting of her film.

At the time of it’s release, Rang De Basanti shattered all box office records and emerged as the highest grossing films of all time. Not only that, the Aamir Khan starrer also bagged the prestigious National Film Award for Best Popular Film and had also scored a nomination for the BAFTA awards.
