Actor Karthik Kumar's Defamation Case Against Ex-wife Suchitra Adjourned To July 22

Actor Karthik Kumar has accused his ex-wife, singer R Suchitra, of defamation. Karthik filed an appeal in the Madras High Court, claiming that Suchitra made defamatory comments about him, violating a previous court order. The couple divorced in 2018 due to differences of opinion.

In a recent interview with a private news agency, Suchitra allegedly spoke negatively about Karthik and several other actors, including Dhanush, Trisha, Andrea Jeremiah and Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Karthik’s appeal seeks Rs 1 crore in compensation, asserting that Suchitra’s statements were damaging to his character.

The High Court had earlier imposed an interim injunction, preventing Suchitra from making defamatory comments about Karthik. Karthik claims she violated this order. During a recent hearing, Justice Karthikeyan adjourned the case to July 22, as the notice had not reached Suchitra.

On May 16, Karthik sent a legal notice threatening to file a criminal defamation case against Suchitra for using ‘homophobic’, ‘casteist’, and ‘foul slurs’ against him. He demanded that Suchitra cease making defamatory statements and issue a public apology. Karthik also threatened legal action against two YouTube channels, Kumudam and Reflect Talks, for allowing Suchitra to run an ‘unfounded smear campaign’ against him.

The controversy began when Kumudam streamed an interview with Suchitra on May 13. In the interview, she made several serious allegations against Karthik and other celebrities. She claimed that Karthik and Dhanush were gay and that a “prank” by them ruined her career. Suchitra alleged that the infamous ‘Suchi leaks’ incident in 2017 was orchestrated by Karthik and Dhanush. This incident involved the leaking of private photos and videos of several celebrities, which Suchitra’s Twitter account (now X) allegedly published.

Following the ‘Suchi leaks’ scandal, Karthik stated that Suchitra’s account had been compromised and that her mental health was unstable. This incident contributed to their split.

In his legal notice, Karthik accused Suchitra of violating the terms of their divorce by interfering with his life, especially since he remarried in 2021. He claimed that Kumudam provoked Suchitra to make wild and false allegations. Karthik criticized Kumudam for recklessly spreading falsehoods to garner views and profit, without verifying Suchitra’s claims.
