Ahead of WandaVision Finale, Plot Points That the MCU Show Needs to Explain
The final episode of WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, will stream on March 5. While the penultimate episode answered quite a few questions, there are a few plot points that require explaining.

This post contains spoilers for episode one through eight of WandaVision.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe phase 4 show WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany navigated the life of superheroes Wanda Maximoff and Vision after the battle of Avengers: Endgame. In a baffling turn of events, we saw Vision, who was killed by Thanos alive and well and living in a 1950s sitcom with his wife Wanda. Through the eight episodes and various plot points we learnt that Wanda, who was grief-stricken, created a ‘Hex’ or a border around the town of Westview and altered the reality within.

In the eight episode, we saw her nosy neighbour Agness as a witch Agatha Harkness, who took Wanda back to pivotal moments of her life to find out how the Avenger created such a powerful and indestructible Hex. We found out that unlike the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda had powers since she was a child, which only became stronger when she came in contact with the Mind Stone during Hydra’s experiment.

We also found out that Wanda did not steal Vision’s body from the SWORD lab, and Tyler Hayward was lying to paint a more negative picture of her. She actually created this version of Vision from her own heartache and trauma. In the climax scene, Agatha called Wanda the Scarlet Witch for the first time in MCU and said that she possessed ‘Chaos magic.’ On the other hand, we saw SWORD president Tyler Hayward bringing out White Vision, a sentient weapon created out of the dismantled body of the Vision.

This sets up two points of convergence for the finale. First, we will see if Agatha Harkness and Wanda will face-off in an epic fight of the Witches. On the other hand, White Vision will most probably be sent to wreak havoc in Westview. This will probably make Vision fight a stronger yet more sinister version of himself.

However, before the finale, there are many questions that are still unsolved in WandaVision. Will the makers be able to address them in just half-an-hour, or will it be a continuation in true MCU style? We will have to wait and watch.

What happens to Wanda’s family outside of the Hex?

The last we saw Wanda’s twins, Billy and Tommy, Agatha Harkness had put them on a choke-hold with her magic. On the other hand, Vision was supposed to fly home to Wanda in episode 7. However, that is not what is concerning us, but the fact that the trio might not be able to survive if the Hex gets destroyed. We had already watched Vision getting disintegrated in the Halloween episode of the show, when he tried to go out and get help for the trapped Westview residents. This means that the Vision we know in the show might cease to exist outside of the Hex. We also talked about the probability of White Vision attacking Westview. This confrontation might even kill the Visions.

On the other hand, we know how WandaVision has been inspired by the Marvel comic House of M. In the 2005 comic, Wanda’s children are killed by Mephisto (this is the dumbed-down version) and Wanda with her overwhelming grief, warps reality to get her children back. Even though in episode 5, we hear Monica Rambeau saying that Billy and Tommy are very real, we still think that it will not be a ‘happily-ever-after’ for them.

Who is Agent Jimmy Woo’s missing person?

In episode 4 of WandaVision, we find out that the FBI and SWORD, two defence agencies are trying to find out what is going on in Westview. The FBI gets involved because a witness who has been put there has vanished, and SWORD gets involved when they realise it is a missing town and Monica Rambeau has also seemingly vanished into thin air. It is very easy to forget about this missing witness, but we cannot help but think this plot-point has a major significance. This witness might be someone we have seen in MCU before, as Agent Woo himself has appeared in the Ant-Man films. This is a plot point that needs solving and I hope the show does not forget about it.

Who is Fake Pietro or Fietro?

When Pietro, Wanda’s dead brother appeared on the screen, for a split-second we thought it was Aaron Taylor Johnson. However, when Evan Peters, who plays the X-Men version of Quicksilver appeared instead, Marvel fans lost their collective minds. After the DIsney-Fox merger of 2019, it was about time the MCU introduced Mutants or Multiverse in their story-line. However, in episode 7 and 8, Agatha revealed that she sent an impostor to mess with Wanda, and quashed all hopes of a Multiverse. However, it cannot be a coincidence that Marvel hired Evan Peters to play Pietro/ Quicksilver in MCU. The question of who this character is, will hopefully have a satisfactory answer in the show.

Will Mephisto even appear in the show?

Hundreds of eagle-eyed Marvel comics fans have been pointing out easter-eggs to say the mega-villain Mephisto will be the big villain Wanda and Vision will fight in the show. Mephisto is Marvel’s Satan, so when Agatha Harkness’ lair was shown there were various signs pointing to a devil. Agatha’s mysterious husband Ralph is said to be Mephisto, or her carnivorous bunny Senor Scratchy can also be him in disguise. However, if Mephisto does not appear, it means MCU really did mess with us.

Who is Dottie?

When the FBI and SWORD agents were putting together a board to find the real identities of the Westview residents, they couldn’t find two residents, one was Agness and we know why, and the second was Dottie. We saw Dottie in the second episode as a power-drunk committee leader who doesn’t like Wanda. It is in front of her, Wanda’s façade breaks a little. Dottie could be a villain, or a Marvel comic superhero. She can even be the missing witness. We have to wait and find out.

How does WandaVision lead to Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and will the Sorcerer Supreme make a cameo?

The fact that Elizabeth Olsen will appear in Doctor Strange 2 is cannon. Ever since this was announced, fans predicted that Wanda’s hex will tap into the Multiverse and create chaos, and Doctor Strange will have to step in to save the day. That is very likely, and it means that the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch can appear as Doctor Strange in WandaVision is also not a stretch.

In fact, Paul Bettany actually teased a major appearance. “There is one character that has not been revealed. And it is very exciting. It is an actor I’ve longed to work with all of my life. We have some amazing scenes together and I think the chemistry between us is extraordinary and fireworks on set,” he said. It is to be noted that Vision and Doctor did not share scenes in Avengers: Infinity War. Or that, Paul Bettany could have been teasing about playing a double role. We wouldn’t know.

Lastly, will WandaVision have a season 2 or will the story continue through other films and shows?

MCU is usually quite tight-lipped about its plans. In a press-conference, boss Kevin Feige had even refused to answer how Marvel Phase 4 would end. We know that WandaVision will lead to Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, which in-turn will be connected with Spider-Man: No Way Home by Jon Watts. However, we want to know if there will be a season 2 for WandaVision which will carry on their story, and focus entirely on these two Avengers. Marvel has also planned The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, and many other shows, and creating multiple seasons for every show seems like a hassle. We will only have to wait for the finale too see how well or poorly they answer all these existing questions to get a clue about what’s next.
