When the trailer of ‘Angry Young Men’ was released earlier today (Tuesday, August 13), it left the audiences nostalgic. The three-part docuseries masterfully captures the personal and professional journey of the legendary writer-duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, more popularly known as Salim-Javed. The two revolutionized Indian cinema in the 70s and introduced Bollywood to ‘angry young man’ heroes. From Salman Khan to Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan; the docuseries will share a glimpse of almost all Indian stars recalling their anecdotes with Salim-Javed.
As we wait for the docuseries’ release; here’s a look at who said what in its trailer:
Salman Khan:
“This is the first one where I’m actually nervous. If you want to kill somebody, do it by your work. That’s what they did."
Farhan Akhtar:
“The only reason I knew that my Dad wrote those films was because he was my Dad."
Zoya Akhtar:
“They did 24 films together, out of which 22 were blockbusters. It hasn’t happened before, I don’t think it will happen again."
Aamir Khan:
“Can you name a single writer today whose name alone draws the audience?"
Hrithik Roshan:
“Whoever has grown up watching their films, carries a little bit of Salim-Javed in their blood."
Shabana Azmi:
“People sat up and took notice. A lot of them also said, ‘Kya hai yeh? Apne aap ko samajhte kya hai yeh?’ I was also one of them."
Jaya Bachchan:
“Once they got the success, they were the brats."
Honey Irani:
“It is not like they were very humble. They were not at all humble."
Karan Johar:
“Can you imagine if a writer today says ‘I want a crore more than Salman Khan’. That was it – the power of Salim Javed."
Yash:
“Why do people today talk about those dialogues? They remember that because they are not just dialogues, they are philosophy."
Amitabh Bachchan:
“Them being together was altogether a different story."
