Filmmaker Suman Ghosh took to Facebook to unveil the trailer of The Argumentative Indian, the documentary on Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, amid the ongoing censorship controversy over the use of words like cow, Gujarat, Hindu India and Hindutva.
The trailer does not contain the "objectionable" words.
He wrote that they were supposed to release the film on July 14 and now that they're not being allowed a theatrical release, he'll make it up by unveiling the trailer instead.
"Today the 14th of July we were supposed to release our film THE ARGUMENTATIVE INDIAN. Of course we were not allowed to. We had prepared a trailer for the release. Please share if you like it. The Tagore poem is recited by Victor Banerjee. And I am indebted to the countrywide support from the people and media," Ghosh wrote.
The Central Board of Film Certification's decision of not certifying the film was prompted by filmmaker Ghosh's refusal to bow to its diktat that the four words uttered by Sen during an interview in the film be muted.
The documentary was helmed over a span of 15 years and is based on a conversation between Sen and his student economist Kaushik Basu.
