Warner Bros’ release calendar also features an untitled Monsterverse film, slated to hit the silver screens in March 2027.

Warner Bros’ “Untitled Event Film” has been making the headlines recently. Scheduled to hit the theatres on December 2026, there has been a new announcement by the entertainment studio. The film is now being titled Denis Villeneuve Event Film. The reason is obvious. Acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve, known for his works in the Dune franchise is helming the project. According to reports, Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures have agreed with the release date hoping that Denis Villeneuve wraps up the shooting of Dune 3 — the third segment of the sci-fi adventure.

According to a report by Empire, it remains uncertain whether Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming cinematic venture with Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures is the third Dune installment or not. But witnessing the massive success of the previous two Dune films, chances are that the production firms and Villeneuve might be keen enough to continue the momentum. If yes, then the film will be an on-screen adaptation of novelist Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah, the report claimed. Sources further claim that while Villeneuve is actively working on his much anticipated Dune trilogy finale, details on the screenplay and returning and new cast members are still pending.

Dune: Messiah might not be the only film speculated to fill in the December 2026 slot. As per a report by Variety, Denis Villeneuve is also in discussion with Legendary Pictures for another on-screen adaptation. It is the work of Annie Jacobsen’s Pulitzer Prize finalist, Nuclear War: A Scenario. The novel presents a “ticking-clock scenario” of what might happen in the case there is a nuclear war. “Dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who built the weapons and have been privy to the response plans and have been responsible for those decisions,” will be followed to make the much-anticipated project.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros’ release calendar also features an untitled Monsterverse film, slated to hit the silver screens on March 26, 2027

Speaking about Dune: Part 2, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson starred in leading roles in this Denis Villeneuve directorial. The film collected 282 million in the domestic box office circuit and 711 million worldwide, as cited by Variety.
