Elavathu Manithan To Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Remembering South's Iconic Villain Raghuvaran
Born on 11 December 1958, he began his career as a stage actor and made his big screen debut with the 1982 film Elavathu Manithan.

Raghuvaran, the current generation might not know much about this popular South actor. If we go back in time, he was considered one of the most prominent actors in the Tamil film industry. Prominently known for his Villainous roles, in his career spanning years, he acted in more than 200 films and carved a niche for himself in the film industry.

Born on 11 December 1958, he began his career as a stage actor and made his big screen debut with the 1982 film, Elavathu Manithan (Seventh Man). The film received widespread acclaim upon its release and also received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. Apart from this, he bagged several state and Filmfare Awards for his path-breaking performances in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films.

Raghuvaran entered the Telugu film industry alongside South Superstar Chiranjeevi with the 1987 film, Pasivadi Pranam.

The actor appeared in several big-budgeted films like Mugavaree, Baashha, Sachein, Red, Arunachalam, Ratchagan, Sivaji: The Boss, Thotta Chinungi, Selva, Love Today and Manithan among others. He was also a part of Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s 1999 film Lal Baadshah.

He shared the screen space with prominent faces of the South film industry like Rajinikanth, Ajith Kumar, Raghava Lawrence and Thalapathy Vijay.

Talking about his personal life, he tied the knot with Malayalam actress Rohini in 1996 and the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Rishivaran in the year 2000. They later got divorced in the year 2004.

Raghuvaran’s acting career was hampered by his addiction to alcohol and drugs.

The popular actor died on March 19, 2008, due to organ failure. Although it is said that he had a history of liver disease due to excessive alcohol consumption for a long period, earlier in an interview Raghuvaran’s brother Rameshvaran said that excessive stress led to his death.

Raghuvaran’s last screen appearance was in the film Yaaradi Nee Mohini which was released in 2008. Directed by Mithran Jawahar, the film also starred Dhanush, Nayanthara, Kartik Kumar, Saranya Mohan and others.

Yaaradi Nee Mohini performed well at the box office and garnered the audience’s appreciation.
