New Delhi: A well built physique, unique dialogue delivery, good looks and the uncanny ability to pull off even the most challenging roles with utmost ease are just some of the factors that have helped Sylvester Stallone become one of the most revered figures in the US film industry.

Today,as the Stallone turns a year older, we tell you why the ‘Italian Stallion’ will always remain a perennial source of inspiration for movie buffs and industry insiders alike.

Stallone is a true survivor: Stallone is someone who has had to face a lot of adversity in life and too from a very young age. As a kid, he was bullied and ridiculed by his colleagues. However, these difficulties could not break the future Hollywood legend’s fighting spirit. On the contrary, they encouraged him to take up bodybuilding and transform himself into a physical specimen.

Furthermore, before making a name for himself as an actor, Stallone had to do a host of odd jobs in order to make ends meet. He worked as a hairdresser, usher and even a cage cleaner. Hence, it would not be wrong to say that the actor has paid his dues in a big way.

He is not merely an action hero: Stallone’s association with hard-hitting action films such as ‘First Blood’ has played a big role in establishing him as the ultimate personification of machismo. However, that is just one side of the actor’s multi-faceted personality. Unlike his professional rival Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone is also a competent storyteller. ‘Sly’ wrote the screenplay for the ‘Rocky’ and ‘Rambo’ franchises. Moreover, Stallone has also wielded the microphone for films like ‘The Expendables’.

Stallone is not afraid of taking risks: A proud perfectionist, Stallone likes performing all his stunts himself. While this fascination has resulted in some mesmerizing fight sequences over the years, it has also a toll on the veteran’s physical well being.

While shooting a dangerous scene for ‘Rocky IV’ the actor picked up a severe injury after being punched on the chest by co-star Dolph Lundgren. In fact things became so bad that Stallone was forced to spend four days at a medical centre. Furthermore, he also broke his neck while filming an intense scene for ‘The Expendables’. Despite these setbacks, he does not think twice before signing up for physically demanding projects. In fact the star was seen doing some dare-delivery in his last release ‘The Expendables 3’.

He is an avid boxing fan: It was in 1976 that Stallone became a household name because of the critical and commercial success attained by ‘Rocky’. Directed by John Avildsen, the film featured the actor in the role of a semi-pro boxer.

In order to prepare himself for the role ‘Sly’ underwent rigourous training, familiarizing himself with the tricks and trade of the sport. However, his tryst with the world of boxing did not end there as he soon launched his own company, signing boxing greats like Aaron Pryor.

Stallone is a true global icon: The actor’s popularity is no way limited to Hollywood alone. He is a revered figure in the international market as well. In fact some of his recent releases like ‘Escape Plan’ have fared better internationally than at the domestic box office. Moreover, Stallone is held in regard by Bollywood actors such as Akshay Kumar. In fact, ‘Sly’ made a guest appearance in the khiladi’s ‘Kambakkht Ishq’.
