It has been quite some time since the makers brought down the curtains on House of the Dragon Season 2, only to leave viewers on the edge of their seats. With the intense climax and the story of the Targaryens progressing, the anticipation for season 2 continues building. However, it seems like fans have to wait more than expected. Actor Matt Smith, who played Daemon Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel, recently spilled beans on the developments, stating that he is yet to receive any update on House of the Dragon Season 3.

During a panel discussion at the New York Comic Con on Sunday, Smith, along with his co-stars Fabian Frankel (Criston Cole) and Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II Targaryen), spoke at length regarding where the story moves on after the season 2 finale. After moderator Josh Horowitz asked if any of them had received a script for the third season, Glynn-Carney chimed in, “Not a jot, not a letter. The longer they take, the longer we don’t have to read anything for a while,” as quoted by Variety. Interjecting, Smith also echoed similar lines, stating, “I have not heard hide nor hair. I don’t know about you guys. I have not heard a thing.”

On the other hand, Frankel teased the others, stating that he has heard a few things but can’t share any of them.
Meanwhile, the makers are still yet to reveal the possible date to start the production for House of the Dragon season 3. HBO has also kept silent on the premiere window for the show. It is worth mentioning that fans had to wait from October 2022 to June 2024 for the second season after filming for season 2 was wrapped in Summer 2023. While the filming for the new season has not begun, several cast members, including Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra and Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen, will make notable returns. Other characters likely to return are Olivia Cooke, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett, Matthew Needham, and Phoebe Campbell.
On the other hand, HBO is busy with the promotions of the latest GOT spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to premiere next year.
