Kamal Haasan’s much-anticipated film Indian 2, directed by S Shankar, was released at the cinema halls on July 12 and opened to poor reviews. The audience cited poor direction and a weak script for the bad reviews of Indian 2. Now, reportedly the makers have tried to introduce some amendments and chopped 15 minutes of screen time from Indian 2. As per the reports, a new version of the Indian 2, is showing up in the cinema halls post the editing. Reportedly, it is not known which scenes have been cut in the post-edit. Other reports mention that Indian 2’s run time – was for 3 hours – has now been reduced by 20 minutes to 2 hours and 40 minutes. Makers had taken this decision after the negative word of mouth continued for Indian 2 on the first and second day of its release. The trimmed version of this film started playing in the cinema halls on July 14. An official confirmation regarding this development is still awaited.
Almost 28 years later, the director Shankar and Kamal Haasan teamed up for the sequel to the 1996 hit Indian. The makers also added the trailer of Indian 3 in the end credits. Apart from Kamal Haasan, Indian 2 boasts a stellar star cast starring Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, SJ Suryah, Bobby Simha, Vivek and others. Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies produced this film. Anirudh Ravichander scored the film’s music.
As per the industry tracker Sacnilk, Indian 2 collected Rs 3.15 cr all-India nett, which is lower than Kalki 2898 AD’s collection on its third Monday. Indian 2 opened with Rs 25.6 cr on Friday (July 12), followed by Saturday (July 13) and Sunday (July 14) figures at Rs 18.2 cr and 15.35 cr respectively. The Monday – July 15 – collections saw a drastic drop of 79 per cent from what it earned on Sunday. Indian 2’s Hindi collections, failed to go beyond Rs 1 cr mark throughout the weekend.
Now, after Indian 2’s failure, the 69-year-old Kamal Haasan will act in the film Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam.
