Jr NTR has filed a writ petition in the Telangana High Court challenging the decision of the Debt Recovery Tribunal about the ownership of a plot. This plot measures over 600 square yards in Jubilee Hills Housing Society. Jr NTR has filed the writ petition through the General Power of Attorney holder K Rajeshwar Rao seeking a direction to set aside the DRT order issued on April 30. The RRR actor had purchased the plot from a lady named Sunku Geetha and constructed a building at the site in 2007. Reportedly, all the necessary permissions were obtained, according to the law. In the same year, the construction of the house was also taken up. Now a dispute has broken out over this place.
State Bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce, IndusInd Bank and Bank of Baroda have approached the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT). These banks have approached the tribunal under the SARFAESI Act. The banks have claimed that Sunku Geetha had transferred the ownership of land to Jr NTR and also taken a loan from them in 1996. Due to the non-repayment of the loan, the 40-year-old actor received notices from the banks. For those who don’t know, Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act”. The SARFAESI Act allows banks and other financial institutions to auction commercial or residential properties. The banks do so to recover a loan when a borrower fails to repay the loan amount.
After receiving the notices, Jr NTR filed a complaint with the police against these banks trying to take over the property. In 2019, the police filed a charge sheet in the same case. The 40-year-old actor, however, decided to approach the Telangana High Court after getting notice from DRT. The vacation bench of Justice Sujoy Pal and Justice J Srinivasa Rao heard the petition on Thursday (May 16). As the DRT order copy was unavailable, Jr NTR’s lawyer has asked for time. The court has now adjourned the hearing to June 6. It ordered that all the detailed documents related to the case should be handed over by June 3.
