In a recent post, acclaimed filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh, known for his work on movies such as the Vidya Balan-led Kahaani series, expressed his thoughts on Kalki 2898 AD. His heartfelt review clearly indicates that he was deeply impressed by Nag Ashwin’s directorial masterpiece. Kalki 2898 AD has emerged as one of the biggest film of 2024. The Telugu film, which stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, has earned a whopping Rs 700 crore worldwide in just one week. Kalki 2898 AD’s production house, Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed that the film has surpassed the Rs 700 Cr mark in the film’s opening week.
“The dream run continues,” the production house shared on X, while revealing that the film has collected the mammoth sum. They also shared a poster of Deepika’s now-viral fire scene from the film. Meanwhile, Sacnilk.com reported Kalki 2898 AD has collected Rs 150 Cr in its opening week in Hindi alone. The film is said to have collected Rs 12 crore (estimate) on Day 7 in Hindi, pushing the box office collection to Rs 162 crore (approx.). As a result, the domestic collections of Kalki 2898 AD surpassed Rs 468 crore. The final numbers are awaited.
For the unversed, Kalki 2898 AD became the talk of the town since its relaese. The film heavily draws inspiration from Mahabharat. The film is set in a dystopian future and revolves around four people — a pregnant woman named Sumathi (Deepika Padukone), who is said to be carrying a child that is the 10th avatar of Vishnu; the immortal Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh Bachchan) who has been tasked to protect the unborn child; a ruthless villain named Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), who wants the child dead for he knows the child will be the end of the baddie; and Bhairava (Prabhas), a bounty hunter who would sell anyone in return of money.
