Karisma and Kareena Kapoor brought some major nostalgia to The Great Indian Kapil Show as they dished out childhood stories and spilled some secrets about their beloved grandfather, the legendary Raj Kapoor. And guess what? Kareena revealed that Karisma was always Raj Kapoor’s ultimate favourite! Why, you ask? Well, it turns out they shared the same blue eye colour!
Chatting with Kapil, Kareena said, “Karisma was always his favourite grandchild because her eye colour matched that of Dadaji: The blue eyes. And also she was the first grandchild. So he was very excited.” To this, Karisma added, “The interesting fact is after me, it was Taimur and then Raha; we all have same eye colour as dadaji.”
Raj Kapoor was really fixated on eye colour, especially when it came to Karisma! According to her mom, Babita, Raj said he wouldn’t even come to the hospital unless the baby had his blue eyes. In Raj Kapoor: The One and Only Showman, written by his daughter Ritu Nanda, Babita shared, “I remember the day Lolo was born, the entire family was with me by my side at Breach Candy Hospital, except my father-in-law. He said that he would come to the hospital only if the newborn had blue eyes. Thank the lord that Lolo had deep blue eyes, like my father-in-law.”
Raj Kapoor, the legendary “Showman” of Indian cinema, left a lasting impact not only on Bollywood but also on his family’s legacy. As the son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj carried forward the Kapoor dynasty, which became one of the most influential in Indian cinema. He and his wife, Krishna Kapoor, had five children: Randhir, Rishi, Rajiv, Ritu, and Rima.
His grandchildren are now well-known faces in Bollywood. Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, his granddaughters, are both successful actresses. Karisma ruled the ’90s with hits like Raja Hindustani and Dil To Pagal Hai, while Kareena has delivered iconic roles in films like Jab We Met and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham since her debut in 2000.
