New Delhi: Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), CEO, Anurag Srivastava, while defending the censor board's decision, said, "This decision has not been made by one single member. The decision was taken unanimously. The observations made by the women members of the committee and we are working as per law."
As per CBFC, 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' was denied certification because the story is lady oriented, their fantasy above life. "There are contanious sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, hence film refused under guidelines.(sic)," CBFC letter reads.
Directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and produced by Prakash Jha, the film has four female leads with the story set in Lucknow.
While explaining what CBFC exactly mean by 'lady oriented' film, he said, "Lady oriented would probably mean that it may be degrading the dignity of women in our society. If film makers don't agree to what we say they can go to the tribunal. Also, the government can constitute a committee. CBFC is not running on its whims and fancies."
Criticizing CBFC's decision, director of 'Lipstick Under My Burkha', Alankrita Shrivastava said, "Not just unfair but it shows a society where women are not given space."
