Little Mermaid Star Halle Bailey Responds To Accusations Of ‘Gaslighting’ Over Pregnancy
Expressing her confusion, Halle Bailey stated she would never comprehend why people are upset that she prioritised protecting her peace. She further questioned if they wouldn't do the same when put to her situation.

American singer-songwriter and actress Halle Bailey, best known for her role in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, recently took to social media to address critics who accused her of ‘gaslighting’ fans by keeping her pregnancy a secret. The 23-year-old artist welcomed her first child with rapper DDG in December 2023. In response to a user’s accusation on X, Bailey defended her decision to keep her pregnancy private, stating, “I never lied or even said anything about it, honey.” She further emphasised that making a joke about her nose was the extent of her comments.

Expressing her confusion, she stated she would never comprehend why people are upset that she prioritised protecting her peace. She further questioned if they wouldn’t do the same when put to her situation. She went on to share her joy about her son’s safe arrival, stating, “I’m gonna share my pics now if I want to because my son is here safely. If you don’t wanna see it, just keep scrolling, baby. God bless you!”

Addressing the allegations of gaslighting, Bailey responded to the user’s claim that fans were ‘annoyed’ by stating, “Lol my hormones have been on 10 recently so I’m gonna go back to staying off Twitter. Love you all.”

The user suggested that Bailey had gone out of her way to lie and gaslight her followers about her pregnancy, only to share details later.

In an earlier Snapchat post, according to Page Six, Bailey explained her decision to keep her pregnancy private, expressing her desire for a “beautiful, private, healthy time.” She also thanked her followers for their kindness and understanding. She said, “Honestly, I stayed off all social media. I really tried to just keep myself sane, and I know that there were a lot of people who would always comment and be like, ‘We know girl, we know.’ And I’m like, ‘OK, that’s great that you know, but I’m just going to chill’.”

In the face of online backlash, prominent supporters of the A-listers stepped forward to counter the negativity and quell the hate.

The rumours of Bailey’s pregnancy initially surfaced when she attended the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2023, wearing a flowing dress that sparked speculation among fans. Despite the speculation, Bailey chose to keep her personal journey private until the birth of her son in December.
