The trailer for Vijay Sethupathi’s 50th film, Maharaja, is out, and fans are excited. After announcing the film last year and revealing Sethupathi’s first look, the makers dropped the trailer for the Nithilan Saminathan-directed movie. The trailer introduces Sethupathi’s character, Maharaja, an ordinary barber in KK Nagar. He faces distress after someone steals ‘Lakshmi’ from his house and goes to the police station to file a report. Who or what Lakshmi is remains a mystery, leaving viewers wondering. The movie’s release date is yet to be announced.
Maharaja, written and directed by Nithilan Saminathan, features a cast including Mamta Mohandas, Natty (Natraj), Bharathiraja, Abhirami, Singampuli, and Kalki. The film is produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy under the Passion Studios and The Route banners, with music by B Ajaneesh Loknath. The music has already impressed Vijay Sethupathi’s fans, with one commenting, “Vera level BGM. I don’t know who this music director is, but he is going to break all records soon. The music is taking the trailer to the next level."
On Wednesday, the thrilling new poster of Maharaja, starring Sethupathi, was released by the makers on their social media site X along with the caption, “The wait is almost over. Get ready to witness the world of Maharaja from tomorrow 5 PM." Sethupathi also posted the movie poster with the same description on his social media. A severely stitched-up Vijay Sethupathi is shown in the poster where he is seen holding a razor while seated in a salon chair.
Nithilan Saminathan, who is well-known for his work in Kurangu Bommai (2017), is directing the movie. Passion Studios and Jagadish Palanisamy are funding Maharaja together under the The Route banner. Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas and Natarajan Subramaniam are among the supporting cast members of the movie, and it is expected that Anurag Kashyap will play a negative role. Maharaja is Anurag Kashyap’s third Tamil film. He previously had a prominent role in the 2018 film Imaikaa Nodigal and a brief appearance in the hugely popular film Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Maharaja’s soundtrack was composed by Ajanesh Lokhnath, and its cinematographer is Dinesh Purushothaman.
