In a heartfelt and candid conversation, acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui opened up about his views on marriage in an interview with Ranveer Allahabadia on his YouTube channel. Following a tumultuous period in his personal life, including well-publicized marital challenges with his wife Aaliyah, Nawazuddin shared his contemplative perspective on the institution of marriage.
When asked if he believes people should get married, Nawazuddin hesitantly responded, “They shouldn’t.” He elaborated on his stance by questioning the societal necessity of marriage, suggesting that love can thrive without the formal commitment. “I want to say but people might misinterpret it… They shouldn’t (get married) he pondered, “What is the need to get married? If you are in love, it can prosper even without marriage. After marriage, people start taking each other for granted.”
He further expressed that love tends to fade between partners after marriage. “If you are not married to each other, then you love each other more. But after marriage, that starts diminishing. Kids come in the picture, a lot of things happen. If you love someone and want to continue loving them, then don’t get married,
he advised. Nawaz also commented on societal expectations, noting that we’re often conditioned to believe that getting married in our 20s will bring happiness. “We think our love, wife will give us happiness but after a while, it is only your work that gives you joy,” he added.
After experiencing several separations, Nawaz and his wife Aaliyah reconciled in March. Aaliyah had previously mentioned that she had filed for divorce a few years back. The couple recently celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary and soon after, Aaliyah shared with ETimes that they had resolved their differences. She revealed that the issues in their marriage initially stemmed from a third party, but they have now worked through those problems. She emphasized that their primary motivation for reuniting was their children. “Nawaz is very close to Shora, and she was deeply affected by the situation. She couldn’t bear it,” she said.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui rose to fame as one of the most in-demand actors in Bollywood. He took on various odd jobs to make ends meet, while pursuing his acting aspirations. From working as a watchman to selling coriander, he persevered for over a decade. Despite landing small roles in a few successful films, it was his remarkable performance in Gangs of Wasseypur that propelled him to stardom.
