Apart from Thalapathy Vijay, the film stars Prashanth, Sneha, Prabhu Deva, Mohan and Jayaram in the prominent roles. After one week of its release, the film is inching towards the Rs 200 crore club at the domestic box office. It has minted over Rs 300 crore worldwide. Thalapathy Vijay starrer is full of action and twists.
Tamil actress Sneha played the role of Thalapathy Vijay’s wife in the film. The fans have appreciated the duo’s chemistry in the film. But do you know, she was not the first choice of Venkat Prabhu for the role of Thalapathy Vijay’s wife in the film? The director Venkat Prabhu revealed in a recent interview that he initially approached lady superstar Nayanthara for the role.
Venkat Prabhu’s directorial GOAT has always been the talk of the town ever since it was announced that it was his second-last film of Thalapathy Vijay before venturing into politics full-time. Sneha’s role in the film marked her reunion with Vijay, after 19 years. They last shared screen space in the film Vaseegaran which was released in 2003. This coincidence came into play after Nayanathara refused to become part of the film.
“I initially planned to cast Nayanthara, but it just didn’t work out for some reason. However, the best thing for me is that Nayan called me after watching the film and appreciated my decision to cast Sneha. She even praised Sneha’s performance, saying that no one else could have performed the role like she did,” said Venkat Prabhu in an interview. He also mentioned that Nayanthara enjoyed the film.
Thalapathy Vijay and Sneha’s chemistry was well-seen in the song Chinna Chinna Kangal. The gross collection of GOAT in India currently stands at Rs 210 crore, making it the highest-grossing Tamil movie of the year so far.
GOAT is going strong at the box office and might surpass the worldwide collection of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: II, which has earned Rs 344 crore globally. Currently, Vijay’s movie will soon place itself in the position of the sixth highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time. It opened with Rs 44 crore net in India on its opening day.
