Oscars 2025: Academy Sets Date and Nominations Timeline for 97th Ceremony; Deets Inside
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC have announced that the 97th Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC announced the 97th Oscars will take place Sunday, March 2, 2025 (Monday, March 3 2025 in India). Once again, the show will air live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

That moves the annual ceremony up about a week. This year’s Oscars were held on March 10. The telecast, which culminated in the best picture win for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” was watched by an estimated 19.5 million people, up about 4 per cent from the year prior.

The film academy is also sticking with an earlier start for the awards. Like this year’s show, the Oscars will kick off at 7 p.m. Eastern, an hour earlier than they have typically done. ABC will again air the Academy Awards.

At this year’s Oscars ceremony, filmmaker Christopher Nolan broke his 22-year-old Oscar jinx as he took home his first-ever trophy at the 96th Academy Awards for Oppenheimer, which was also declared the best picture. Cillian Murphy took home the Best Actor Oscar for his incredible portrayal of American physicist J Oppenheimer in the 2023 acclaimed biopic, while Emma Stone was named the best actress for her performance as Bella Baxter in Poor Things. Robert Downey Jr, a three-time Academy Award nominee, also won his first-ever Oscar for playing US official Lewis Strauss in Oppenheimer. In his acceptance speech, Robert Downey Jr first thanked his ‘terrible childhood’ followed by the Academy for the honour. He got emotional while thanking his wife, Susan Downey. Meanwhile, John Cena shocked everyone as he walked up on stage naked to present the best costume design award.

Apart from this, an action scene featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR from SS Rajamouli’s movie RRR was a part of a montage that was shared to pay tribute to the contribution of stunt coordinators to cinema across the world. The official X handle of RRR had shared the clip from the ceremony on its official X account. India’s Nitin Desai was also honoured in the “In Memoriam” montage showcased at the 96th Academy Awards.
