P V Jagadish Kumar: How A Former College Lecturer Became A Comedy Icon

Before stepping into the world of acting, many prominent figures worked in different fields. For example, Mammootty used to work as a lawyer while Rajinikanth was a bus conductor. Someone who transitioned from being a teacher to an actor is well-known artist P. V. Jagadish Kumar. He is a well-known face in the world of the Indian entertainment industry and is popularly known as Jagadish. Everyone knows him as an actor who makes audiences laugh with his performances, not everyone is aware that he was once a college lecturer.

As a teacher of commerce, Jagadish has students from across the globe. When he goes for film shoots, he is sometimes greeted by some of his students who have excelled. One of his students is now a minister.

In a recent TV debate, Jagadish found out he had once taught the Finance Minister of Kerala, K. N. Balagopal. During the discussion, where K. N. Balagopal and retired Chief Secretary C. P. Nair were present alongside Jagadish, the surprising revelation came up when Balagopal addressed Jagadish as ‘Sir,’ mentioning that he was his student.

According to reports, Jagadish taught business management to K. N. Balagopal when he was pursuing his master’s in commerce. It should be noted that before stepping into the film industry, Jagadish had a successful career in academics. He taught at various colleges under the National Service Scheme. He later joined MG College as a lecturer.

The reports further suggest that his family members were also in the teaching profession. Jagadish’s father was a school teacher while his sister Prof. Shanta Devi was the principal of NSS College, Karamana. Adding to it, his late wife Dr. P. Rama, was the head of the forensic department at a Medical College. Jagadish’s daughter, Dr. Ramya, also reportedly chose to follow the family tradition. She is presently a lecturer of Pharmacology at Government Kilpauk Medical College in Tamil Nadu. In a past interview, Jagadish expressed his pride and happiness that his children have chosen this path.
