Pune: There has been no end to protest at India's premier film school Film and Television Institute of India as students agitate against Gajendra Chauhan's appointment as the institute's chairman. The students have expressed dissent as they think Chauhan is not qualified to be the president.
Students' organisation said, "We strongly condemn the appointment of the new chairman. We propose the ministry to reconsider his appointment and also re-look at the process of constituting the FTII society and members. Until further clarity surfaces from the I&B ministry, we continue to standby our demands and mark our protest with a call for a strike."
Gajendra Chauhan is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and is known for his role as Yudhishtir in the 'Mahabharata'.
Meanwhile, apart from the film fraternity, different quarters are supporting the protesting students.
Director Nikhil Advani said, "I completely support the students' protests. The government can find someone who knows what students really need. An FTII alumnus would be the best fit for the job."
Former AAP leader Yogendra Yadav met the students and expressed his support with their fight. "Gajendra Chauhan's appointment shows the sheer arrogance of the government. The government has been meddling with important academic institutions for long. The government doesn't understand the long term effects of its interference."
