Ratan Tata Dies At 86: Hrithik Roshan Honors the Iconic Industrialist, Says 'India Has Lost A Gem'
Ratan Tata, the iconic former chairman of Tata Group, passed away on October 9, 2024, at 86, leaving the nation and business community mourning.

Ratan Tata, the revered Indian industrialist and former chairman of the Tata Group, passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 86 at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. The news of his demise has left the nation and the global business community in mourning as tributes continue to pour in from all sectors. Among those remembering the legendary leader is Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan.

Hrithik Roshan took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share his condolences, writing, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Ratan Tata. I admired his eye for design, quest for innovation. The empire he has created with his passion and visionary leadership, shapes the business landscape of our country. His works of philanthropy and the humility with which he carried himself, is what made him an exemplary human being and citizen. Rest in power, Sir. India has truly lost a gem. Om shanti .”

Ratan Tata was the son of Naval Tata, who was adopted by Ratanji Tata, son of Jamsetji Tata, was the founder of the Tata Group. Ratan Tata’s life was marked by remarkable resilience and numerous achievements. Following his parents’ divorce, he was adopted by his grandparents at the age of 10. He later pursued higher education at Cornell University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture. His journey with the Tata Group began in 1961, working on the shop floor at Tata Steel before eventually rising to lead the entire conglomerate.

A recipient of Padma Vibhushan, he breathed his last at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at 11.30 pm, a top police official told PTI. He was admitted to the hospital for the past few days.

In a statement, Tata’s family said,”We his brothers, sisters, and family take solace and comfort in the outpouring of love and respect from all who admired him. While he is no longer with us in person, his legacy of humility, generosity and purpose will continue to inspire future generations.” In a statement, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said, “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi , in a post on social media platform X, condoled the death of Tata saying he was “extremely pained by his passing away”.

He served as chairman of the Tata Group from 1990 to 2012, and interim chairman from October 2016 through February 2017. He continued to lead its charitable trusts until his death.

The Tata legacy is set to continue under the guidance of Noel Tata, Ratan’s half-brother, who is also a key figure within the company. Noel’s children—Maya, Neville, and Leah—are considered as potential successors who may carry forward the family’s storied legacy in the future.
