Shashi Kapoor, the face of versatility in both films and theatre, passed away on Monday after prolonged illness. Known for his work in films such as Deewar, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Kabhie Kabhie, the 79-year-old leaves behind a rich cinematic legacy.
PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to remember the legendary actor and offered condolences to the family.
"Shashi Kapoor's versatility could be seen in his movies as well as in theatre, which he promoted with great passion. His brilliant acting will be remembered for generations to come. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers," he wrote.

Veteran actor Hema Malini, who has worked with Kapoor in films like Do Aur Do Paanch, Kranti, Trishul and Jaaneman among others, also expressed her grief over the loss.

Kapoor had been suffering from ailments for the past few years. He had undergone a bypass surgery and was also hospitalized for a chest infection in 2014.
