Salman Khan's huge fan base to 'bhai' image: Why his films are all-time Box Office hits
Salman Khan-movies have become a genre in itself for his loyal fans.

Salman Khan-movies have become a genre in itself for his loyal fans. For the last five years, every movie featuring Salman in the lead has had a record break success at the box office. ‘Jai Ho’ was the only exception which wasn’t as successful, but it had still made it into the 100-crore bracket.

Kabir Khan directed ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, was one of the biggest earners this year, as its worldwide collection amounted to Rs 603 crore. Based on the life of a simple, Hanuman bhakt Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ saw unprecedented success in terms of revenue collection. The real life story of Geeta, the deaf and mute Indian girl who strayed to Pakistan got equated with Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which elevated its value.

Sooraj Barjatya’s movie helped Salman to bring his lovable family boy image back. After 16 years, he came back as the same Prem that he started out as in ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Hum Aapke Hai Kaun’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hai’. The movie has till now earned around Rs 200 crores, and with no big release lined up till Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Tamasha’, the movie will continue to make more money.

Despite being the typical family film with the irritatingly sweet Sanskari flavour found in Barjatya movies and its wafer-thin plot, his fans liked it which confirms the unconditional love they have for Salman's films.

Let’s take a look at the reasons that make Salman films a huge hit:

Brainless capers work for Salman Khan: Starting with 'Ready', most movies starring Salman Khan have failed to offer a great plot. His films like ‘Kick’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Bodygaurd’, ‘Dabangg’ franchise and more, have largely been only about Salman Khan’s antics, unique dance moves and one-liners. No one ever complained, and the audience simply relished the masala entertainment offered in these films.

Fans do not want Salman to experiment: Salman Khan is nearing 50, and till date he hasn’t mustered courage to do things differently. He has never taken a role which could be seen as a drift from the happy go lucky superstar image that he has carried for the last two decades. Barring a few exceptions, including the Revathi’s film 'Phir Milenge' based on lives of AIDS patients; Salman has refused to be anything but the larger than life actor.

Family entertainers work: Indian audience have a deep-rooted fascination for family films that talk about joint families, unconditional love of parents and siblings and traditional backdrops. Barjatyas, Yash Chopra and Karan, Johars essentially thrived on the family based plots for long and the audience seems to be not tired of it yet.

Charm of adorable bhai: Salman Bhai, has a huge club consisting of newcomers and star kids who got a break through his movies. This doesn’t diminish his clout in Bollywood. The character he plays in his movies are close to his protective ‘bhai’ image that he has been in his real life. Real or reel, he is the undisputed messiah of those in need or waiting for their big break.
