News18 Showsha Reel Awards are back with a bang, and we promise to be bigger, better, and grander. This year, the awards will celebrate the impressive performances in the world of OTT and Bollywood. We honour all achievers and stars on March 9 (Saturday) in Mumbai. The awards will bring together the greatest talents of Bollywood and the OTT platforms under one roof for the first time.
And what are Bollywood films if there is no music! 2023 was a beautiful year of discovering new music and fresh voices, along with the OGs setting the bar high. Keeping the biggest hits of 2023 in mind, here are the News18 Showsha Reel Award nominees for Best Playback Singer (female).
Shilpa Rao (Chaleya/Besharam Rang): Last year, Shilpa Rao added her magical touch to Pathaan’s hit track, Besharam Rang. She even lent her voice to another soulful track in Jawan, titled Chaleya. Both of these tracks resonate with the feeling of love in different forms. Known for her wide range of vocal techniques, Rao has been in the music industry for almost 16 years now.
Sunidhi Chauhan (Show Me The Thumka): Sunidhi Chauhan needs no introduction. She is a powerhouse in the Indian music industry. In the song Show Me The Thumka, from Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, she once again showcased her incredible vocal range and vibrant energy, adding her signature touch to the musical landscape of the film.
Shreya Ghoshal (Tum Kya Mile): Be it love or heartbreak, Shreya Ghoshal’s voice comes as a warm hug to every listener. The singer lent her soulful voice to the Pritam-composed track Tum Kya Mile for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The romantic number is set against the backdrop of snow-clad mountains in Kashmir, while Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s characters romance each other.
Jonita Gandhi (What Jhumka): A powerhouse of talent in the music industry, Jonita Gandhi won hearts with her rendition of What Jhumka from Karam Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. She effortlessly captured the essence of the song, which featured Alia and Ranbir flaunting their dance moves. From delivering hit playback numbers to enthralling live audiences, Jonita Gandhi continues to captivate listeners with her extraordinary talent and passion for music.
Nikhita Gandhi (Tere Pyaar Mein): Nikhita Gandhi’s refreshing voice brought life to the soundtrack of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar with Tere Pyaar Mein. The song features Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s characters romancing each other as they explore the bylanes of Spain. She is currently basking in the success of her recently released track, Jiya Jaise.
Raja Kumari (Jawan Title Track): Raja Kumari, the dynamic singer and rapper, made a compelling mark with the title track of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. Known for her powerful and energetic performances, Raja Kumari enjoys a massive fan following, infusing the song with her signature style and contributing to the film’s vibrant and engaging soundtrack.
