Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated sequel, Son of Sardaar 2, has found itself embroiled in controversy even before its release. The film, currently shooting in the UK, recently made headlines for two major reasons: Sanjay Dutt’s visa rejection and the removal of Vijay Raaz from the cast due to alleged misconduct.
Sanjay Dutt’s Visa Rejection:
The first major blow to Son of Sardaar 2 came with the news that Sanjay Dutt, who was a key part of the original film, had been denied a visa to the United Kingdom. This decision stems from Dutt’s past legal troubles, specifically his 1993 conviction under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) and the Arms Act. Although initially granted a visa, the UK authorities later revoked it, citing his criminal record.
Sanjay Dutt expressed his frustration in an interview with Bombay Times, stating, “They gave me the Visa (initially). Everything was ready. Then a month later, you are canceling my Visa! I gave you all the papers and everything. Why did you give me the Visa in the first place?”
With Dutt unable to join the shoot, Ravi Kishan has stepped in to replace him in the film. The sequel, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, is expected to continue the storyline of the original, though with some notable changes, including the absence of Sonakshi Sinha.
Vijay Raaz’s Removal Over Misconduct:
The second controversy involves actor Vijay Raaz, who was reportedly removed from Son of Sardaar 2 due to unprofessional behaviour. According to Kumar Mangat Pathak, the film’s co-producer, Raaz made several unreasonable demands during the shoot, including larger rooms, a premium vanity van, and exorbitant payments for his spot boy. Mangat revealed that the situation became untenable, leading to Raaz’s dismissal from the project.
“The role will now be played by Sanjay Mishra,” confirmed Pathak. He further claimed that Raaz’s spot boy was involved in a separate, more serious incident- allegedly sexually assaulting a hotel staff member while intoxicated.
Vijay Raaz, however, has denied the allegations. He clarified that the two incidents were unrelated and distanced himself from the actions of his spot boy. Raaz also suggested that his removal was due to his failure to greet Ajay Devgn on set rather than any misconduct.
While the controversies have certainly cast a shadow over Son of Sardaar 2, the film’s production continues, with the team making adjustments to keep the project on track.
