Tamil actor Vishal had been suffering a dry spell at the box office but it changed with the release of Mark Antony last year. The science fiction comedy film revolved around time travel and after the movie’s success, Vishal is now going to appear in a completely different avatar in the rural action drama Rathnam.
Rathnam has been directed by filmmaker Hari. The film’s poster depicted Vishal holding a severed head, suggesting a violent theme in line with current trends. Its shock value immediately captured attention.
Now that the film’s release date of April 26 is approaching, the makers have released the trailer of Rathnam, which stars Priya Bhavani Shankar as the leading lady. Sickle fights, punchlines, angry villains, a convoy of SUVs, a political ploy, and whatnot! The trailer of Rathnam has everything we have come to associate with the action filmmaker.
The trailer of the film, set on the Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu border, introduces Vishal as Rathnam, a man with a vengeance, compelled to confront powerful adversaries after they dispatch thugs to assault Priya Bhavani Shankar’s character. Much of the action takes place on the road. The identity of these antagonists and Rathnam’s motive for safeguarding the girl remain mysterious. These questions will be answered once Rathnam releases on April 26 in Tamil as well as in Telugu.
Although the narrative of the film is not clear yet, there is a similarity in theme to the Karthi and Tamannaah Bhatia starrer Paiyaa, which also involved the main character protecting a woman from goons sent to capture the female lead, featuring action on the road.
Rathnam also includes actors like Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Hareesh Peradi, Rajendran, and Muthu Kumar, among others. The movie features musical compositions by Devi Sri Prasad, who has previously partnered with director Hari on movies like Aaru, Singam, Singam 2, Venghai and Saami Square.
